What these figures carry

  • A non-cash charge. Useful as a rough signal of how fast the asset base is being consumed, not as a spending figure.

The order changes with the basis. Which of these populations is the right divisor is not a technical detail: the tax base is properties, the services are used by whoever is present, and roughly 54% of the dwellings in this county are not occupied by permanent residents. No source states how much of the year a seasonal dwelling is occupied, so this atlas will not choose for you.

Which way is better

Contested. Spending is thrift or neglect depending on what you think a municipality is for. A low figure may be efficiency or a deferred road that costs a later council more. Nothing on this page is ranked, and the bars are ordered by size rather than by merit.
