A dash is a figure the atlas does not have; a zero is a figure it has, and means none. Algonquin Highlands has no pharmacy, no hospital and no bank branch, and its post office is the one still unplaced against the Lake of Bays boundary.
What is drawn, and what is not
The boundaries, water, roads and place names are Land Information Ontario’s, under the Open Government Licence. The 17 health services are the Ministry of Health’s register of what it licenses or funds. The 30 shops are the province’s list of locations licensed to sell alcohol, which is the nearest thing Ontario publishes to a register of the shops in a village. It is not a grocery count. The 67 transmitters are federal spectrum licences.
Nothing here is drawn on a basemap. Every tiled basemap worth using is a third-party service with a key and a record of who looked at what, and this atlas exports to files that deploy anywhere, so the county draws its own.
The libraries, schools, waste sites, community centres and beaches are missing from this map and not from the atlas. They come from the County of Haliburton’s GIS services, which publish no licence, so the layers are built and then withheld from what this site serves. The counts taken from them are published, on the profiles and in the comparison table, each saying where it came from. A count of libraries is a fact about the county. The layer is the County’s database, and only one of those is theirs to licence. Permission to redistribute the layers was asked of the County on 25 August 2026 and has not been answered yet. When it is, the positions appear here too.
A licence is not a service. A transmitter position says nothing about whether a signal reaches a dwelling, a health service is where care is funded rather than where anyone is seen, and a shop is on the list because it sells alcohol. Every source, and what it cannot answer.
