Where this comes from

Ontario publishes no register of restaurants. The nearest thing is the health unit’s: Lakelands Public Health discloses every food premises it inspects, with a name and civic address. It lists everything that serves food, from school cafeterias to food banks, and no category, so which entries are places to eat is this atlas’s judgement. The list is also not complete, and 1 places here are missing from it and confirmed on their own pages instead. This directory was compiled on 13 October 2026; the health unit’s inspection dates behind it are its own, and often months older.

Telephone numbers, websites and social accounts are what each business publishes on its own site or pages, the County’s tourism site or the local papers. Nothing is taken from Google, Yelp or TripAdvisor, whose terms do not allow it, so a place with no contact listed is a place that published none this atlas could find.

Places run from a private home are left out, because their address is somebody’s home. So is anything only guests or members can use. Kinmount, Norland and most of Dorset’s main street are outside the county, and the road network decides which side of the line an address is on, not its mailing address. Harcourt is in Dysart et al, not Highlands East.

Highlands East is under-counted. Its two places are both in Gooderham; the diner in Wilberforce and the restaurant near Cardiff are not on the health unit’s list, and nothing this atlas could read confirms their address. They are added when something does.

Robinson's Chip Stand, 1061 Main Street. The road segment puts this side of Main Street in Algonquin Highlands; the interpolated point falls in no municipality, and sits on or near the line. The side of the road decides.

Trading Bay Dining Company, 1089 Main Street. The road segment puts this side of Main Street in Algonquin Highlands; the interpolated point falls in no municipality, and sits on or near the line. The side of the road decides.
