What these figures carry

Dysart et al

  • The municipality does not publish a station list on its website. This count comes from its own fire master plan, which refers throughout to a single station in the singular — "the current fire station", "a fire station replacement strategy", "costs of a fire station replacement" — across four consecutive recommendations. The County GIS independently maps exactly one Dysart fire facility.
  • An earlier version of this file recorded the count as unknown and asserted that one station for 1,474 km2 was "almost certainly an undercount", reasoning from Highlands East operating five across half the area. That inference was wrong. Dysart's population is concentrated around Haliburton village in a way Highlands East's is not, and the master plan confirms a single station.
  • Published wording: "Dysart et al should conduct a study to assess the condition of the Dysart et al Fire Department's current fire station. The study should also assess the station's compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act."

Minden Hills

  • Published wording: "The Minden Hills Fire Station is located at 12418 Highway 35, Minden Hills, ON, K0M 2K0"

Highlands East

  • The County GIS layer maps only four of these five; Station 1 in Cardiff is absent from it. This is why the atlas takes station counts from the municipality rather than from the mapped layer.
  • Published wording: "Highlands East has five fire halls throughout the municipality."

Algonquin Highlands

  • The County GIS layer places Station 60 at 1051 Main Street and Station 80 at 1095 North Shore Road; the municipality's own page says 1060 and 1065. The municipal figure is used and the disagreement is reported on the QA page rather than resolved silently.
  • Published wording: "AHFS operates three stations; Station 60 in Dorset, Station 70 in Oxtongue Lake, and Station 80 on North Shore Road in the former Township of Stanhope."

Which way is better

Contested. Station count reflects geography: a 1,474 square kilometre township needs more of them, which is a cost as much as a service. Nothing on this page is ranked, and the bars are ordered by size rather than by merit.
